Part 1: Pretending you are Samson, write a letter from him to a friend or family member in his homeland telling what he thinks about living on the mountain with Rosh, Daniel, and the others. Explain why you stay so close to Daniel and ignore Rosh. Give us insight into his character since he does not ever speak.
Part 2: Reply to one of your friend's responses as the friend or family member of Samson.
Dear Mom & Dad,
ReplyDeleteI recently have been captured by these random mountain people. I have also found out, they are friendly. They have given me a new name: Samson. It is different, but I still like it. Rosh is the main leader of these people. But Daniel is the only one I’ll listen to for sure. Daniel is my master now and I’m sure you guys would love him as much as I do. The other men do not think very highly of me, but i know some day they will. Mom, I really miss you and your cooking. The meals at the campfire are good, but they aren’t as delicious as yours. Dad, thank you so much for teaching me the work you know. It has helped me so much out here. I hope one day I can see you guys again, and I hope that day comes soon. I have to get back to work but I will write you again when I can. I hope all is well. Love you.
Sincerely,
Samson A.K.A. Your Son who misses you dearly
Dear son,
DeleteI'm so sorry you have to endure that food. I've always made sure that you had good food in your system to make you strong and healthy. At least you have a good friend by your side. Dad says, "You're welcome." He loves you and so do I. We will pray for your safety and that you will come home soon. Let God lead you through your life.
With love,
Mama and Papa
Dear Father and Mother
ReplyDeleteIt is me your son Saul I have been living on a mountain for the past few months a group of people freed me from the Roman Guards I give all my thanks to a boy named Daniel he freed me from my imprisonment yet he is not the leader who they all respect he is the most mistreated and ignored the leader is Rosh all say he is a brave man but all I have seen is a lot of talk but no action from him. Most of the people have been rude to me making fun of me but recently it has died down I pray for the best of you.
From your son
-Saul
Dear Saul,
DeleteWe have been praying for the Lord to give you strength. We know that it will be hard and you have had to suffer, but things will always get better if you look to God. Always keep him in your heart and pray as often as possible; keeping a strong relationship with God is necessary to endure struggles.

Samson
Dear Samson,
DeleteThat is great that you have found a new family. I get you not wanting to talk until you can trust them, but you will have to talk sooner or later before something bad happens. I'm happy that you have found a new friend. This letter did not fall into the wrong hands, so feel free to tell me more about you journey
Yours truly,
Max
Dear Jamall,
ReplyDeleteI have found a place that I can call home. It is near Ketzah. I’m living with a group of people that-I think-dislike the Romans very greatly. They feed me, and provide water and shelter. They’ve given me the nickname “Samson”. I have become very close to a young Jew. His name is Daniel. I met him when he removed my shackles after being held captive as a slave by a merchant. He sold me and Daniel’s group stole me. I was very grateful of Daniel for freeing me. I have not spoken a word to anyone because I still don’t trust anyone. I think they think I am illiterate. I am getting closer to Daniel as every day goes by. He is the only one of value in my life here.
Your Brother,
Samson
Dear Samson
DeleteI have been Praying for you that you would have a safe place I hope that you will be treated well and respected God is with you
Sincerely your brother
Jamall
Dear Samson
DeleteIt is nice you've found a place to stay. I am grateful to hear that Daniel has helped you. Although I think you should talk to your friend Daniel you keep quiet to the rest. You don't know how they will react. I am glad that you could write to me, ill tell mother and father I got a letter from you. We have all been worried. I hope to hear from you again soon.
Your Brother
Jamall
Dear Samson
DeleteSince you have found a good home I hope they will take care of you. Just remember to write me again some time

Dear Cousin Ed,
ReplyDeleteRecently I have been hiding up in the mountains after I was took from the caravan by some robbers. They said I was to good to be wasted away as a slave and that they could use me. The men were afraid that I would kill them and they still are they are just learning to trust me a little bit more. There is this boy named Daniel who is like a brother to me. I feel like it is my responsibility to take care and look after him.
Yours Truly,
Samson
Dear Samson,
DeleteI am so happy to hear from you! I am so glad that you have made a friend and you finally have a brother of your own. I am so happy that you are out of the hands of the Romans! I hope that you and Daniel have fun up there in the mountains!
Sincerely,
Cousin Ed
Dear Mama,
ReplyDeleteI miss you so much Mama. When the Roman Gaurds were taking me away on the long path, I was saved by a bunch of bandits. There not very nice to me. I don’t fit in here very well. I only have one friend, and his name is Daniel. He’s my best friend in the whole word now. All of the other people are afraid of me. Thankfully, it’s beautiful up here(except for the people). The mountains are a wonderful place. I wish you would be here with me. Just you, me, and Daniel. There is this main guy named Rosh, but I don’t obey him. Daniel is the one who got the shackles off of me in the first place. I am obeying him just as you taught me should. Rosh is not a very nice person. He is making Daniel do all of these things that are very hard for a boy his size.
Mama, I am so sorry that I had to leave you, but the guards took me away. I didn’t want them to hurt you. I love you Ma. I’ll write you soon.
Your Son,
Zacchaeus
Dear Jeremiah,
ReplyDeleteYou’ll never believe what happened! This group of people on a mountain just attacked our caravan. The group kept me because I was strong. The leader of the group is really mean. He just tells me what to do and when to do it. He gives me these nauseating jobs. I just stand there and look him because I don’t want to lay a finger on the filthy things he gives to me. Talk about being gross! I don’t talk at all because they aren’t worthy of my words, and people think I’m def or stupid or something. They just don’t understand me like you do; I’m a delicate flower. Just because I’m strong and big doesn’t mean that I am cruel and malicious There is one boy, though, who understands me. His name is Daniel. I think that I’m getting to the point where I think he’s worthy to hear my words. I stick with him because he’s nice to me. He stands up for me. For that reason, I do some of his chores like chopping firewood. Although I don’t have fun when people boss me around, I still enjoy the campfires at night despite all of the mosquitoes. I also take pleasure in the mountain because it is away from all the hustle and bustle of people. So, what’s going on in your life right now? Did you finally ask that one girl out that you’ve been talking about all the time? Please write back to me soon.
Your bestest friend,
Samson
Dear Samson,
DeleteIt is great that you are with sorta better people! You make sure you stick with Daniel, he sounds like a trustworthy guy! Just be safe and stick through to the end! Be safe!
Your awesome friend,
Jeremiah
P.S Yes, I did! We be going out soon! YAY!
Dear Alex
ReplyDeleteI have been captured, but because of some bandits on a mountain I was saved. A young man named Daniel save me from my shackles. I have been too afraid of them to speak, but they have taken care of me they have given me food, water, and shelter.
My time has been good here I'm very thankful for what they have given me.
Your Brother....
Dear Brother,
DeleteI miss you dearly. I hope you can come home soon. I'm glad they are taking care of you. Just remember what mom told you, "Always do good for the Lord, not for human." I've been praying for you all this time and I will continue on doing so. Stay safe and find your way home soon.
Love, Alex
This letter has been translated so you know what Samson is saying.
ReplyDeleteDear Ma,
I have sadly been captured to be a slave. It was tough work but I have been freed by these mountain people! I am being quiet until I am 100% comfortable with all these people. They have been giving me water, food and best of all, shelter! But a lot of people here make fun of me because I am strong and big and black. My owner, Rosh, is a ok guy. He joins in with the other people who make fun of me. But this one man named Daniel, he likes me and cares for me. He even released me from my shackles! Best thing is that he doesn't make fun of me! I stick close to him. I just tend to ignore Rosh. I hope I can soon see you again and others as well!
Yours truly,
Samson
P.S My new name (or slave name) is now Samson.
